mound springs dawn

Gidja Lee Walker

acrylic and oil pastel on canvas.

This amazing artwork by Gidja Lee Walker was been donated by the artist to raise funds for the ‘Freedom Flotilla’ to West Papau in August, 2013.

These springs are formed from ancient water from the great artesian basin…..the old sea…. The mound springs are sacred sights for the Arabunna people. This is the area from which the convoy begins its epic journey.

The mound springs have been effected by the mining at Roxby Downs Olympic Dam mine. The artist has bared witness to the impact of mining on this land from when it began. She has a connection with this land that has called her back and given her the inspiration to stand strong to protect this country

We are honoured to have been donated this painting by the artist herself, in support of this noble cause, the Freedom Flotilla to West Papua
