  1. The view of a Civilian-
An interesting situation where it is stated that traveling across the waters in a selfless act is illegal .The reality is that the harm towards these humans, the West Papuan people and the fact that these innocent people are being controlled and threatened, the west Papuans are living under and having to endure is illegal.
    Activists set sail-
Let us focus on the ‘good’ these so labeled ‘activists’ are trying to achieve.

West Papuans have suffered 50 years of human rights violations, discrimination and abuse at the hands of Indonesia after it fraudulently took control of West Papua in a staged ‘referendum’ organised by the UN. I hope to continue working closely with IPWP to ensure the EU applies and keeps up the pressure on Indonesia and the UN to grant the peoples of West Papua a properly conducted referendum on in dependence

“I told the Australian ambassador (Greg Moriarty) it would be better if no country became the departure point of anybody who wants to disturb another country’s sovereignty,” Mr Djoko said in a note circulated to Jakarta journalists on the weekend.

    Disturbing a countries sovereignty ?

Sovereignty is the quality of having independent authority over a geographic area, such as a territory. It can be found in a power to rule and make laws that rests on a political fact for which no pure legal definition can be provided. In theoretical terms, the idea of “sovereignty”, historically, from Socrates to Thomas Hobbes, has always necessitated a moral imperative on the entity exercising it.

Australian Free West Papua campaigners are urging the Gillard Labor Government to break with over 40 years of successive Australian governments’ policies of ‘turning a blind eye’ to the human rights abuses that continue on our doorstep in West Papua.

Turning a blind eye: Do we turn a blind eye often? Is this a regular occurrence? Is this beneficial?

Since the Indonesian military occupation in the 1960’s it is estimated that over 100,000 West Papuans have been killed. It’s time for Australians to stand up for our West Papuan neighbours and defend human rights.
