“A call to truth and not an international crime’
We invite you all to a SOLIDARITY GATHERING for the 20 freedom fighters on the ‘Freedom Flotilla’ that have begun a revolutionary journey from Lake Eyre (in South Australia), Nimbin, Cairns, Cooktown and now heading to Merauke (West Papua) over sea.
We will be gathering around the sacred fire in Musgrave Park during Tuesday evening the 30th of July to welcome travellers on convoy for the Freedom Flotilla from lake Eyre to West Papua.
They are bringing attention to ongoing genocide in West Papua since Indonesian invasion in 1971. A media blackout prevents foreign journalists from entering the country.
Jacob Rumbiak, Foreign Affairs Minister of the Federated Republic of West Papua, as well as Uncle Kevin Buzzacot of Arabunna country who is a long time leading elder of the Aboriginal tent Embassy in Canberra are the forefront of the campaign and will be among the inspirational speakers.
Water ceremonially gathered from the sacred mound springs in Arabunna country south of lake Eyre, is traveling with the flotilla to be united with it’s head waters.
The Flotilla departs from Cairns in a few weeks, making its way up to the Torres Strait and across to West Papua.Join the event on Facebook
On Thursday the 1st of August, Brews Brothers Microbrewery will be hosting a fundraiser for the Freedom Flotilla to West Papua as they arrive at the Brisbane Aboriginal Tent Embassy, before heading off on their journey across the Torres Strait.
This Saturday June 1st at Turnstyle will be a night of information about West Papua and the Merdeka (freedom) movement. A short film will be shown, and we will hear from speakers who have lived in West Papua, as well as some who will later in the year be involved in the “Freedom Flotilla” which will attempt to sail from Cairns to West Papua.
It will also be a night of entertainment, with local musicians showing their solidarity, including Peter Hunt (Kooii), Andy Paine and more. There will be food and a bar on the night as well.
Starts at 7pm. $5 on the door. All funds raised go towards the Freedom Flotilla.
